Sustainable Holiday Gift Wrapping Ideas

I've finished my holiday decorating, decided on what gifts to give and all I have left to do on my list is to wrap all of my gifts. Like many of my other projects, I thought that putting a sustainable spin on gift wrapping wouldn't be so tough!

Let's get down to it, as a student I don't want to spend money on fancy wrapping equipment and it might not be very eco-friendly. Here are a few things I've picked up to help us all be sustainable when it comes to wrapping those holiday gifts!

Use Recycled Wrapping Paper
There are companies that sell recycled wrapping paper that you can always purchase, but what I mean by this idea is to find your own used paper products and wrap your gifts! My favorite option is to use the comics section of the newspaper to wrap gifts for other people! It's fun and you can be creative with whatever paper products you find unused around the house.

Use Tape Sparingly
To reduce using tons of tape, try using double sided tape! I've found that double sided tape makes gift wrapping look seamless and since it's double sided you won't need to use heaps of tape!

Choose a Creative Sustainable Way to Gift Wrap

Use magazine pages to make your own bows for boxes!

Keep in mind you don't always have to use gift wrap or paper products to wrap! By taking a trip to your local dollar store you can buy cheap reusable boxes or containers to put your gifts in. Try your hand at putting gifts in mason jars or boxes someone can reuse to put their jewelry or small items in!

Don't Use Gift Wrap at All!
This idea is oriented mainly towards families with kids, but I guess this doesn't limit anyone else who would enjoy this idea. Instead of wrapping gifts, you can create a scavenger hunt and hide the gifts instead of having to unwrap them! It's a fun and unique way to present a gift and would definitely be a lot of fun for the family!

Remember to keep it green this season!

Sustainably Yours,
Tami
